We put the (ot) in work out!

In this lesson, I learned all about assistive technology and I must say that I am sort of embarrassed about the lack of knowledge I have about this subject or field. In today's lesson I learned that there are actually three levels of assistive technology and that everyone has it. I never, before today, looked at a smart phone, watch, or even a pencil gripper as being categorized as "assistive technology"; I always perceived items or objects that helped aid people with disabilities as "assistive technology". I also did not know that a lot of the information I thought true about assistive technology was actually a myth and was false. For example, I always thought that assistive technology was for people who may have had a severe disability; I did not know that pretty much everyone has some type or form of assistive technology that they use on a everyday occurrence. Learning about these different myths and educating myself on the affects assistive technology has on people who may or may not have a disability was enlightening.
I also listened to the video about how OT's help clients or patients who have breast cancer through the performance of pilates, and that was intriguing to me as well. In a sense, pilates could be a type or form of "assist" to people who have some sort of condition. According to the OT, it releases certain hormones and uses certain muscles that could aid and be beneficial to the person who has breast cancer. Both lessons were enlightening to me because I got to learn so much about not only assistive technology, but also just assistive techniques that can be used for clients or people who have certain conditions.
